A pair of New Mexico history books:
1. "Illustrated History of New Mexico." Benjamin M. Read. 1912. First edition. 44/500. First publication in English. The author starts with prehistoric New Mexico, the Aztecs and their Empire, on up to the year of publication. Read offers sketches with photographs of many notable figures throughout the 1800s-early 1900s. 812 pp. 10" x 7". Dust jacket, attractive cover, inner hinge starting, slight wear on spine upper and lower, corner bumps, otherwise very good.
2. "The Land of Poco Tiempo." Charles F. Lummis. 1893. 38 illustrations include photographs by the author. It is filled with colorful prose, yet full of pertinent information, and written as only one who loves New Mexico can write. "Here is the land of poco tiempo - the home of "Pretty Soon." Why hurry with the hurrying world? The "Pretty Soon" of New Spain is better than the "Now! Now!" of the haggard States. The opiate sun soothes to rest, the adobe is made to lean against, the hush of day-long noon would not be broken." 310 pp. 9" x 6". Slight wear on upper and lower spine, and corners. New Mexico
