First Newspaper is the New York American Edition No. 8373 Friday, April 20th 1906 Headline reads: San Francisco is Obliterated by Fire! Business Section is Destroyed and the Flames Are Rapidly Devouring the Fragments of Residential Districts Which Remain. Final Stand With Dynamit Fails--City Will Be in Ashes by Tomorrow Night. Starvation Faces Almost The Entire Populace! Front page is filled with the latest bulletins from the ruined city and subsequent pages feature a diagram of the city showing the burn path and dozens of details on the death and destruction. Second Paper is the New York Journal by W. R. Hearst No. 8385 P.M. Tuesday, April 24th 1906. Headline Reads: New Shock Causes Panic. Tottering Buildings Collapse. On the front page is a panoramic view of flames sweeping over the City. Paper reports that on April 23rd a "fresh earthquake hit San Francisco crashing a number of partially burned buildings to the ground. It also reports that 3 of the largest steamships on the Pacific Coast sunk due to the earthquake.Several pages of pictures of the fire follow with a reprint of the first newspaper story printed by an Oakland newspaper after the event. Many other interesting stories. Both papers are yellowed with age, have tattered edges and some damage, but both are fully legible with all pages present.
