Cert. #11, issued for 500 shares in 1867 at New York. According to the Annual Report of the State Mineralogist, 1867, "the Twin River district, about fifty miles south of Austin, is at present attracting more attention than any of the others in Nye County, on the eastern slope of the Toiyabe Mountains." In Ophir Canon, 2 1/2 miles from Smoky Valley was the Twin River district. In June, 1864, a lode 20' wide was discovered with beautiful specimens of native silver. The Murphy, Green and Twin Ledges, 3 parellel locations passed into the hands of the Twin River Mining Company of New York in 1865. The South Twin River district was located five miles south. Our company was surely trying to capitalize on the immense potential of the area and likely had little trouble in raising the funds. The certificate was issued to L.A.C. Baker and signed by Aaron Claflin as president and Jno. James Stevenson as secretary. Very involved vignette of a miner at the center, settlers, an Indian, ships in the distance, etc. Revenue stamp at bottom left. Uncancelled.
