Jonathan Stevenson, leader of the New York contingent of the Bear Flag Revolt, bought Rancho Los Medanos August 6, 1849 and called it "New York of the Pacific". This is the land receipt for lot 16, block 158, 50' front on F Street, 100' deep. "New York of the Pacific" was at the confluence of the Sacramento and San Joaquin Rivers and is now the town of Pittsburg. Stevenson had the Army lay out the town of Rancho Los Medanos. Frame 17.5 x 24 inches with rear cutout for back of document visibility and John Geary signature. Also marked California Territory which never really existed as California was made a state in 1849, thus the Territorial designation is rare. 5" center hole and small to and bottom center chips.
