Formed by more than 200 railroad mergers between 1838 and 1982 with its' headquarters in Roanoke, Virginia. During the Civil War it was the biggest railroad in the south. Moved most of the products with their steam locomotives to help the South. Norwich and Worcester Railroad was created by the 1837 merger of the Boston, Norwich and New London Railroad Co., and the Worcester and Norwich Railroad Co. Combined firm began operating between Norwich and Worcester in 1840.
