Lot of three, including: 1)The City of Trembling Leaves, by Clark, Walter Van Tilburg. Hardcover, 690 pages (Paher #337). Published by the Sun Dial Press, Garden City, N.Y., 1945. The book opens in Reno, NV, the location for most of the stories. In the early 20th century Reno is a bustling small town, near a mountain range and surrounded by fantastic scenery. Most of the book is introduced by the primary character, Tim Hazard. Tim is in grade school and follows his adventures through childhood and adolescence until he becomes a man. The author, Clark, who grew up in Reno, was the son of a University of Nevada president. 2) Two copies of Sweet Promised Land, by Laxalt, Robert (Paher # 1099). One hardcover with multi-colored dust-jacket and a 1.5" tear on the front cover at the top left, 176 pages, Harper & Brothers Publishers, New York, 1957. One soft cover, 186 pages, Harper & Row Publishers, New York, 1974 (special edition with Epilogue of author discussing the career of his brother Paul Laxalt, Governor of Nevada). This work, the first and perhaps the best-known of Robert Laxalt’s books, appears to be a simple story about the author’s father, Dominique, and his return to his Basque homeland after forty plus years as an immigrant sheepherder in the American West.
