This 1869 booklet is 9 x 6" and 31 pages long. "The Policy of Extending Government Aid to Additional Railroads to the Pacific" This report was made by William Stewart to the United States Senate. It was written in aid of the proposed Northern Pacific Railroad (and others that may come along) to compete with the Central Pacific Railroad which was just about to be completed. BUT the real treasure here is the map that is loosely attached at the back! It measures 16 x 29" and shows the proposed routes of the Northern Pacific from Portland and Seattle eastward and the Southern Transcontinental Rail Road which goes from Southern California eastward. The map shows minor staining and a 1/4" rip where connected to the booklet! The booklet is in poor to fair condition: no back cover, major folds in front cover, staining on front cover, etc. But the pages are intact, strongly attached and complete.
