This is a classic Nevada mining camp saloon token. It was a bit of a C&C RR station for miners and equipment, serving Rawhide to the east, Grantsville, Garfield and other mining camps. Information prior to the post-1900 mining rushes in Nevada is scant, but this token is a classic c 1908-1912 token. James Davis ran the Northern in 1912. By 1914, there were two saloons listed in Polk, run by TR Pledge and Hanlon & Duval. The token may have been issued by either Davis or Pledge, as Pledge remained in Luning for some time, gaining another saloon license in 1915, and creating Luning Mercantile in 1916 with partners. The Northern Saloon was a common name in Mineral County, with at least three different saloons of that name circa 1910-15. Pop in 1990: 16. In the mid 1970's, one could get one of these tokens from the postmistress.
