The Northern, Rawhide, Nevada. 1) Metal token from "The / Northern / Inc. // Good For / 5 / In Trade." Br., 21mm, perhaps very good. This token dates from about 1908 when the Northern burned and was rebuilt. It is erroneously listed in Hoskins, et al Supplement #1 as issued in Reno, but the keno tickets found in 1966 in Rawhide clearly state that this name came from that town. 2) Here is the complete set of 12 .5 c, 25c and 50c card tokens. The Northern saloon burned in 1908 and was rebuilt, but the boom was over. Years later it was decided to issue cardboard pieces instead of issuing brass trade tokens. The saloon was gone in 1966 when the consignor found these pieces in the ruins of the Northern's storage dugout. Today Rawhide has completely disappeared, swallowed by a giant open pit mine. Unlisted in Hoskins et al. Douglas McDonald Collection.
