Nye may have gotten started in Sacramento in the late 1850's. By 1860 he was in partnership with W.T. Eaves. The pair appeared to have moved to Virginia City shortly after. Prior to discovery of these two pieces, there were only three Nye & Co. pieces known to the advanced Nevada silver collectors. There are thus now only five Nye & Co. pieces known. Here are a large dinner fork and a serving spade for fowl, which is fancily engraved on the spade face. Both are Gorham pattern. The relationship of this Nye to the Nevada Territorial Governor is unknown. [ Virginia City Nevada Fred Holabird Collection
