Mines of the Indian Mining District were organized around 1864 when Nevada was still a territory. It lies east by northeast of Oreana on the eastern flank of the Humboldt Range. Its big gold and silver producer was the Moonlight Mine which lasted from 1861 to 1875 and produced more than $100,000 in its first ten years The Oakland Gold and Silver Mill and Mining Company was incorporated on January 31, 1874. The Oakland was involved in a hostile takeover about then. According to Couch and Carpenter the Oakland Mine was the major producer in the Indian MD in 1875 when this stock was issued. Today it is actually in Pershing County. Number 515 for 500 shares to trustee George Waters in 1875. Signed by secretary William Watson and president C. Jones. Waters was delinquent on this certificate in 1864. It is obvious that the company re-issued stock in 1874. Watson would be the secretary for the famous Yellow Jacket Silver Mining Company in 1865. History of the company through newspapers in 1875 is included.
