Rare letterhead to go with your Bodie seltzer bottle, if you're luck enough to have one! J. Jeffery, Proprietor. 1912. Letter is from John, who notes they arrived in Bodie yesterday and it is "very dull," understandable for Bodie post-1900. Mentions a tip-over on the grade on the trip over. The Occidental Hotel, the finest in Bodie, was built in 1879 and owned by J.C. Kemp and J.L. Coleman. It expanded from 28 rooms and a large parlor to 48 rooms, a dining room, and a saloon in 1880. The weekly rate was $9 which included 2 meals a day. Kemp used the upstairs as a high-end photography studio. [Ref: Geissinger, pg. 42, 2009] Ex. Holabird Collection.
