1) Really nice check with RN-C21b revenue imprint (Nevada over federal) signed by John Mackay. Issued to J.P. Smith on June 3, 187-. Blue font at left: Occidental Mill. Signed by Smith on reverse. Cut cancel and light stains. 2) Bank of California check signed Occidental Mill, James G. Fair. Orange 2 cent US IR adhesive revenue. Issued to John Forbes for $2,142 on Sept. 2, 1871. Folds and cut cancel. The Occidental Mill was a tailings mill built in 1870 on the Occidental Grade. It had 20 stamps and a 50-ton-a-day capacity [Ref: Ansari, pg. 34]
