Lot of 2 different. The Occidental Mill was associated with the Occidental Mine, located 1.25 miles east of Gold Hill. The mill was built in 1870, 1/4 mile south of the Occidental Shaft. In 1871-72, it had 20 stamps and a 50-ton-a-day capacity. (Ansari) 1) No. 195, issued to GH Mallard (VC paint merchant) in 1872 for $10. Signed by James G. Fair. Rare RN-C21b imprinted revenue. Fair was one of the four "Bonanza King" mining millionaires and also served as a US Senator. 2) 1871 Bank of California check issued to RH Crocker ( a stock dealer in VC). Manuscript "Occidental Mill" next to signature line. Signed by Fair. Heavy stains/soiling.
