An extremely rare Officers Model trapdoor Springfield rifle! This is an officers model stock with a target rifle conversion to 45-90 caliber. This rifle is the 1873 first type "High Arch Breech block." Cartouches include "P" in oval stamped behind the trigger tang and the "LMP 1890" inspection cartouche in rectangle opposite the lockplate on left side of the gun. This is possibly one of 477 "Officer's Rifle" made for high ranking military personnel. This rifle has the advanced 1,500 yard windage and elevation sight as well as the silver front fore grip mount exclusive to the "Officers Rifle "only. This rifle has the tool /cleaning kit compartment in the buttstock. It is believed this is a refurbished of the period of 1890 sporting rifle for military elite. Flayderman's documents that the 1873 model Trapdoors were converted to Officers Models and are very rare. Some were also refurbished in 1890 and are so stamped as is this rifle. The barrel length is 33 inches. Because there is so much mystery to these RARE AND DESIRABLE trapdoor special models and because no one is really sure what special feature each officer could order, it is believed this is an authentic item that has been re-blued and chamber extended. This is quite possibly an "Original Officer's Rifle" but without further research we cannot verify this.
