This is a four page section from The Colton Sub-Tropic Newspaper, dated June 12, 1880. Nicholas Earp and his wife, Virginia Ann (Wyatt Earp's parents) moved to this Southern california town shortly after the Civil War. This is where Virgil Earp recuperated after almost being assassinated by the"Cow Boys" in 1881. Ironically, speaking of the Earp's, there's an ad in this paper for a livery stable called "OK". The paper endorsed James A. Garfield for president in 1880, as is evidenced by the large article about the 20th President and his running mate, Chester A. Arthur, who would become the 21st President when Garfield was assassinated in 1881.
