Location: Keystone, Tybo Mining District, Nye County, Nevada. Inc. 1867. No. 237, not cancelled, issued for 100 shares to Jacob Rheem on Dec. 11th, 1867 in Philadelphia. Signed by A.O. Hiester (president0 and Stephen Miller (secretary). Vignette of mine and smelter (upper center) and patriotic eagle with shield at left. Printed by John Alexander, Phila. The town of Keystone was established as a company town for the mining company and never truly established itself as anything more than a mining camp. The population stayed low, never reaching any higher than 50, but that was enough to support two saloons. After the initial mining rush of 1867, the camp was mostly silent until the discovery of a rich silver deposit made in 1910. The Old Dominion Mining Company was incorporated in 1867 under the laws of Pennsylvania. The company offices were located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. This is a rare certificate because it has been financed by an eastern company in a time when it was nearly impossible for eastern financier companies to enter into business in the western mining interests. (Information on Keystone from http://www.ghosttowns.com/states/nv/keystone.htm). Creases and minor stain bottom left. 7.5" x 10.75" (Prag Collection)
