Top Allied Officer signed 2 scrip "Short Snorter" notes from Operation Avalanche, September 9, 1943, Salerno, Italy. USS Biscayne was a US Navy seaplane tender from 1941-43 and was an amphibious force flagship from 1943-46. Biscayne became the flagship of Rear Admiral Richard Lansing Connolly and was operational during Operation Avalanche, the Allied invasion of Salerno, Italy. These 2 scrip notes are signed by several notable Allied top officers on the day of the landing. Over 40 signatures of commanders and ship officers plus 2 war correspondents. USN-Vice Admiral Henry K Hewitt and Rear Admiral Richard Connolly. Army General Mark Clark and British General John Hanksworth and dozens of other onboard the ship. The Algerian note has some browned tape. A nice group of autographs just before H Hour. Also includes a detailed booklet on the ship and those onboard. [
