Lot of 2. Nice pair of W.S. Hobart / Ophir Mill, Bank of California, revenue checks issued in Virginia City in 1872. One is signed by James G. Fair and the other John Mackay, two of the four "Bonanza Kings." Both checks have RN-B16a imprinted revenues. Spindle cancels. The Ophir Mill operated along the Carson River. It was originally owned by William Sharon and the Bank of California crowd, but Fair and Mackay took it over. It is often called the "New Ophir Mill" to distinguish it from the earlier Washoe Valley mill with the same name.
