Lot of 2 different. The Ophir Mine is one of the oldest claims on the Comstock and the discovery site for the Virginia City branch of the lode. It was located at the north end of Virginia City between the Mexican and California mines and discovered by McLaughlin & O'Reilly. 1) Watkins' New Series, Yosemite and Pacific Coast, 26 Montgomery Street and Woodward's Garden, SF. "Ore House, Ophir, Virginia City." Good focus and contrast. c.1876-79. 2) Views of the Comstock. "Ophir" visible in lower right of photo. "Ophir, Virginia City--Nevada" written in pencil at the bottom. No photographer identified. Sign going into the mill reads "Go Very Slow." Light contrast, sharp focus.
