"No. 11. OPHIR MINE VA CITY NEV" in white print on photo. 4.75 x 7.75" photo on 7.5 x 10.5" board. Great contrast and focus except for right edge where it is washed out. Reverse has pencil notations that this was taken in 1898, which seems right to us (c.1900). No photographer listed. The Ophir Mine is one of the oldest claims on the Comstock and the discovery site for the Virginia City branch of the lode. It was located at the north end of Virginia City between the Mexican and California mines and discovered by McLaughlin & O'Reilly.
