Lot of 3 for the famous Ophir Mine, one of the oldest claims on the Comstock and the discovery site for the Virginia City branch of the lode. It was located at the north end of Virginia City between the Mexican and California mines and discovered by McLaughlin & O'Riley. 1) Ultra-rare RN-G1, Nevada Bank of San Francisco (over Bank of California), signed by James G. Fair. Issued to well-known bookseller F. Boegle in 1878. Cut cancel and corner stains. 2) Two Bank of California, RN-X checks issued in 1900 and signed by G.M.M. Ross as superintendent.
