#354 issued 1883 to E Vroman Esq, Schoharie Valley RR, signed MGR, tan card stock, unk printer. Formed in 1869. The Oregon and California Railroad originated from the Oregon Central Railroad, which became eligible for California land grants after operating a 20-mile line south of Portland in 1869. It was soon renamed the Oregon & California Rail Road Company. The line was completed across Siskiyou Summit in 1887, at which point the Southern Pacific took control, though it did not formally purchase the railroad until 1927. The route was later separated from Southern Pacific and became the Central Oregon and Pacific Railroad.
