Lot of 5. Includes: two different 1866 Eugene City receipts, one large; 1867 Salem receipt; 1866 receipt (from Blue Gut?); 1860s way-bill, California & Oregon Untied States Mail Line. The Oregon Stage Company, founded in 1866 by Portland businessman Henry W. Corbett, succeeded the California Stage Company and took control of stagecoach service between Sacramento and Portland, operating a vital overland route through Oregon and northern California. Under Corbett's ownership, it held a near monopoly on passenger, freight, and mail transport along this corridor until the completion of the railroad connection in 1887 made long-distance stage routes obsolete. Corbett, who later became a U.S. senator, used the company's success to cement his role as one of Portland's leading civic and commercial figures.
