Brown border, black print, and vignette of Native Americans looking down at train. ABN. Henry Villard was a journalist and financier who served as an early president of the Northern Pacific Railway. During the Civil War, he served as a war correspondent. In the 1880s, he founded the New York Evening Post and The Nation. He was also owner of the Oregon Railway and Navigation Company. The Oregon & Transcontinental Company was a 19th-century holding company in the United States, organized by Henry Villard in 1881 to control the Northern Pacific Railroad and Oregon Railway and Navigation Company. In 1890, it was re-incorporated as a holding company in New Jersey and became the North American Company.
