1880 stock certificate #708 issued to William Stuart, Trustee for 100 shares. '100' has been painted in orange and purple on two different locations on the stock. Signed by George Cope president and William Stuart secretary. Six assessment stamps on reverse. Datelined San Francisco. Lith. Britton & Rey, S.F. Profitable amounts of gold were discovered in Bodie in 1860, but the district became much more important in 1877 after the incorporation of the Standard Mine produced over $1 million in 1883. Many companies incorporated in the area, but was still considered a wildcat in 1878. The name of this company is consistent with the fact that most of the district's miners were from Mexico (Ref: Burchard, 1884, p. 173-76)
