Very rare; we have not offered this before. Inc. in Colorado in 1885. No. 28, issued for 104 shares to SL Sharpless in Denver in 1886. Signed by president James Moynahan and secretary Samuel Leach. Not cancelled. Red border, black print, and red Colorado state seal underprint. 5.25 x 9" Pinhole, folds. The Orphan Boy Mine is a famous productive claim in Mosquito Gulch near Alma in Park County. It was located in the early 1860s. The town of Sterling rose up around it. By 1880, Sterling had been abandoned and a new town, Park City, came in its place. In 1881, it was reported that the Orphan Boy and another lode, the War Eagle, had produced $500,000 worth of silver in just four years of operations. Yield ended up being $7 million (not adjusted for inflation). James Moynahan was a Union Army veteran, Colorado State Senator, and mayor of Alma (3 times). This company is not listed in C&L (as it was organized in 1885). An 1885 Fairplay Flume article mentions the company has been organized to drive a 700 ft. tunnel into Mosquito Mountain to access the Orphan Boy and six other claims. In 1890, they were reported as resuming operations.
