34.7 grams. Very rare Otto Mears Silver spoon. Colorado railroad magnate Otto Mears is famous for the silver railroad passes that he made and issued for the various railroad lines he owned in the Rocky Mountains. Mears also was responsible for making two different sterling silver souvenir spoons. Much was written on the silver passes by William strong in his wonderful book the remarkable railroad passes of Otto Mears, published in 1988. Mr. Strong shows photographs of both silver spoons on page 99 of this book. The spoons were reportedly made and given to guests at a banquet in Silverton, Colorado in 1891. It is possible that more than two different spoons were made, but at the present time these two spoons are all we know about. One of the spoons has a mining scene in the bowl of the spoon and of mining scene up the handle, which is this spoon. The other spoon has a likeness of Otto Mears at the top, and a railroad scene in the spoon bowl. This spoon is Marked Henry Bohm Denver on the reverse. Extremely rare.

if you collect the Otto Mears Spoons, please see also lots 1358 and 1360 for two more Mears spoons.

Made by Henry Bohm of Denver, this 6" spoon has miners depicted at the top, with a line dropping to the bucket at the mine's bottom where two other miners are working, loading the bucket of ore to bring to the surface. Henry Bohm came to Denver from Leadville in 1881 and established the Henry Bohm Jewelry Company, which later became Bohm-Allen Company. He was a leading jeweler in early Denver.
