Lot of 2 different scarce certificates. 1) The Ouray Gold Mining Company, Limited. Issued for 5 shares in 1889 in London. Signed by two directors and the secretary. Not cancelled. Green border and print, foreign revenue imprint. 12 x 8" with coupons. The company was registered in 1887 to acquire and work the group of three gold, silver and lead mines, 4 miles from Ouray known as El Mahdi, Dexter No. 2 and Mugwump (Skinner, 1888). The company was successful enough to declare a 10 cent dividend in 1888. 2) First National Bank of Ouray. Stock no. 10, issued for 20 shares to cashier LL Bailey in 1889. Signed by president Price and Bailey. Signatures cut out (as often seen with these). Black border and print, underground mining vignette. 8.75 x 11" Price opened the bank in Sept. 1889 and suspended operation July 1st, 1893 during the 1893 Silver Crisis. When it reopened, it was re-named Bank of Ouray. It filed for bankruptcy in 1907.
