By Stanley Wood - Chicago: R.R. Donnelley & Sons, Co., Publishers, 1906. 340pp, illus. near fine. Sub-titled, "A Complete Tourist"s Guide to Colorado, New Mexico, Utah, Nevada, California, Oregon, Puget Sound and the Great Northwest." Not really complete since it provides a route description of rail routes only. Thus the New Mexico section describes the D&RG stops as far as Santa Fe (with interesting side trips) and into the northwest (Chama has primitive accommodations but an excellent meal can be obtained). The first chapter covers from the Missouri River to Denver, followed by from Denver to Pueblo, Pueblo to Ogden, Salida to Grand Junction, Pueblo to Alamosa, Alamosa to Expanola and Santa Fe, Alamosa to Silverton, Durango to Ridgway, Silverton to Montrose, and others. It ends with Ogden to Portland via the Oregon Short Line and the Oregon Railway and Navigation Co.. It contains a listing of the altitude of mountain peaks of the Rocky Mountains, mountain passes, elevation of lakes, and altitudes of towns & cities followed by the indes of towss and points of interest. First published in 1894, this was a popular guide that went through many editions, this one updated to 1906. The folding map (13 1/2 by 19 inches) shows the Denver and Rio Grande Western System throughout Colorado, into northern New Mexico and west to Ogden, Utah is not included as usual. [Flake 9989]
