An 8.5" x 4.25" one-sided receipt, partially pre-printed, which reads: "Overland Stage Line./Office of the Overland Stage Line," For Carrying the/Great Through Mails between the Atlantic and Pacific States,/(Ben Holladay, Proprietor.)/ Atchison Sept 15th 1865/Mr. A.H. Duignan the sum of/Forty Dollars/in full for his passage from Atchison/to Kearney, in Coach leaving Sept 6th 1865/(signed) Hugo Richard Agent. Benjamin Holladay (1819 ñ 1887) was responsible for creating the Overland Stage to California during the height of the 1849 California Gold Rush.
