Unused. "For Carrying the Great Through Mails From the Atlantic to the Pacific States." Ben Holladay, Proprietor. 5.25 x 8.25" The Overland Stage Line, established in 1858 by Ben Holladay, was a vital stagecoach service that connected Missouri with California, carrying passengers, mail, and freight across the Great Plains and Rocky Mountains. At its height, it operated thousands of miles of routes, with relay stations every few miles and hundreds of coaches, becoming one of the most important overland transport systems before the rise of the railroad. The line declined after the completion of the transcontinental railroad in 1869, which offered faster and more reliable service, eventually making the stage line obsolete.
