Captain Guillermo Flore Reyes Winchester model 1892 chambered in 44 WCF or 44-40This Winchester rifle S/N 335669 belonged to Captain Guillermo “Flores” Reyes a member of Poncho Villa’s Revolutionary Army. The gun is marked “GENDARMERIA DE PARRAL. NO. 14”. Parral is a town in Mexico that Villa visited frequently. The placard that accompanies this rifle states ”WINCHESTER MODEL 92 44-40. This 1906 issue carbine repeater was owned by Captain Reyes of Pancho Villa’s feared Alacranes Parral Army Regiment. This name refers to the “Scorpion” as depicted in the etching on the stock; (a sobriquet Reyes would have acquired from his peers.) Note the Mexican Military stamping on the barrel.” “GENDARMERIA DE PARRAL. No. 14.” proudly stamped on the left side of the breach.Captain Reyes had the distinction of being the oldest living member of Poncho Villa’s army, surviving to age 116 having died on Nov. 5, 2014. (b.1898). He participated in the raid on the American town of Columbus, New Mexico where 19 Americans lost their lives prompting action from American Army troops of General Pershing and a young George Patton. Reyes would have been 17 years old at the time. Flores Reyes was born and lived in Jalisco, Mexico and died in Ecatepec, Mex. This rifle has solid provenance having been passed from Cptn. Reyes’ daughter to a noted gun collector. Although a curio and relic; this requires a C&R or FFL having been made post 1898. A $50 transfer fee is required for this rifle. This gun is an antique and no attempt has been made to fire this gun to confirm its mechanical integrity. Nor should this gun be fired without the examination by a qualified gunsmith.
