Framed Buffalo Brewing Company 1974 Somerset Press Litho – Buffalo Brewing Co. reproduction poster from the Sacramento advertisement department of the 1910 print that was issued by the Brewery on calendars and store signs. "No greater western image has ever been conceived" according to an appraiser on PBS' Antiques Roadshow. Only 11 originals of thise print are known to exist. Reproductions from 1974 are hot items for the more frugal collectors. The Buffalo Brewing Company was founded by Herbert Grau in Sacramento in 1888. It became one of the most successful breweries west of the Mississippi, and dominated sales throughout California, the Pacific NW, Hawaii, Alaska, Central and South America, and even Russia and China. During prohibition the Company remained in business by producing soft drinks and “near” beer. When prohibition ended, they resumed selling beer once again, however, sales diminished and the brewery closed for good in 1949.
