#69 for 18 shares to D Nathan. Signed by Henry K Reed and president AP Stanford. Stanford was a director of the Central Pacific Railroad from construction to completion (1866-1870). He sat with such people as Crocker, Huntington, Hopkins, etc. Dateline 1863 San Francisco. Incorporated Feb. 5th, 1863. 25c Certificate revenue stamp. Faded. Not cancelled. Location: Pacific Ledge, Middle Hill, Esmeralda Mining District. Eureka vignette of people seeing the sun rise. Also a sailing ship vignetted. Small pinholes where stamp was applied. Very light fading on bottom. One corner fold. Valentine & Co printer. In 1860 it was reported that this hill had fewer claims than others. The chief claim as the original Pacific which was located in 1860. In February 1860 it was sold to San Francisco investors and the name changed to the Pacific Gold and Silver. At present there is 2,000 feet of work and the new owners seem anxious to determine their wealth. They have a shaft of 40' which compares favorably with other mines in the district.
