Lot of 4. Company dates back to California Gold Rush period (1848), formed in New York. Established to carry US mail on the Pacific leg of a transcontinental route via Panama. 1) Includes two postal cards mailed in 1891 to Adolph Sutro in San Francisco in 1891, letting him know packages had arrived for him from Hamburg. This was after Sutro had completed his famous Comstock Tunnel and relocated to SF, but before he became mayor. 2) Two postcards mailed in the 1920s: on board SS President Taft and SS President Lincoln.
