Rare Nevada Bank of San Francisco check with "Pacific Wood L & F Co." written in purple ink in the upper left corner. RN-F1 imprinted revenue. Issued in 1876 to Frank Taradid. Signed by Comstock mining millionaire John Mackay. Spindle cancel. Some staining, adhesive revenue on reverse. The Pacific Wood, Lumber & Fluming Company was owned by two of the Bonanza Firm, Mackay and Fair. The Pacific Wood, Lumber, and Flume Company flumed lumber to Huffakers, seven miles from downtown Reno, where the V&T then took it to the Comstock. The PWLFC owned more than 3,000 acres of timberland in 1877 and reportedly cut 25,000 feet daily between 1874 and 1877. The company had 120 Chinese piling and loading wood at its flume terminus at Huffakers.
