Two unissued stock certificates for shares in the Napa and Sonoma Wine Company, dating from the 1870s. The decade from 1870 to 1880 was the first boom in the Napa wine industry, with an increase in wine production of almost 1000% from the birth of the industry in the 1850s (Statistic from Viticulture's Promised Land by Suruchi Mohan.) These certificates originate from this pivotal moment in California's wine history. They have interesting engraved vignettes of two figures gathering crops, as well as an engraving of a bunch of grapes; both are in excellent condition.
