A pair of stock certificates for mining companies in Silver Mountain, California, both dating from the 1860s. Silver Mountain, originally known as Konigsberg, was a mining town in California that was initially established by Scandinavian immigrants. Gold and silver were discovered in the area in the 1850s, causing thousands to flock to the town; when the mines were finally exhausted in the 1880s, it was abandoned. The certificates are for the Hancock Gold and Silver Mining Co. and the "The Pearl" Gold and Silver Mining Company. The "The Pearl" certificate is signed by president and secretary, and a 25¢ IR stamp is affixed in a stamp frame; the Hancock certificate is unissued. Both are in good condition.
