Renowned Native American basket weaver Dat So La Lee of the Washoe Tribe in northern Nevada sold many of her finest works at The Emporium in Carson City, Nevada, which was owned and operated by Amy and Abram Cohn. The Cohn's quickly recognized the quality of Dat So La Lee's basketry and documented every item that she produced from 1895–1925. Most if not all of the approximately 120 documented baskets were sold at The Emporium Co. This lidded basket still has the Emporium Co. label affixed to the bottom (see close-up photo). We cannot know for certain that it was made by Dat So La Lee, however. The construction is of dried willow shoots, the darker material likely dyed in an iron-bearing water solution containing acorns. It is approx. 6 inches in diameter and 5 inches tall to the top of the knob on the lid. It is in excellent condition. See photos for details on construction and condition.
