1) Rey del Monte MC Stock. Dateline San Francisco. Early number 12 for 25 shares to Charles Hosmer. Signed by R. N. Van Brunt and president JD Fay(?). Hosmer was a San Francisco mining stock broker. On September 29, 1860 he purchased 20 feet of the Copperas Tunnel claim. Used a promissory note dated April 1, 1861 to secure it. This shows a definite Nevada connection. The area was still in the Utah Territory at this time. [Records of Carson County, Utah and Nevada Territories by Ellison]. Incorporated March 18, 1863. Not cancelled. 25c Protest revenue stamp. Location: Palmyra District, Lyon County, N. T. Towne & Bacon printer. Nicks along borders. Dog ear upper left. Overall very nice. The Sacramento Daily Union reported on December 12, 1862 (four months before incorporation) that the Rey del Monte of Palmyra is "yielding rock of extraordinary richness." The ore shows plenty of free standing gold and silver. And the "owners are industriously engaged in raising ore from their mine for crushing next spring." The Palmyra district, which included the towns of Palmyra and Como, was organized in 1862 in the Pine Nut Mountains 8 miles southeast of Dayton between the Sullivan (to the southwest) and Indian Springs (to the northeast) districts. 3) Andrew Jackson MC Stock with Unusual Carson City Dateline; Signed by one of the builders of the Como to Carson River Road. This is a Van Winkle family affair. Issued to A. J. Van Winkle and signed by president A. J. Van Winkle and secretary P. W. Van Winkle. Number 109 for 20 shares. Dateline is an unusual Carson City, September 8,1863. Incorporated April 10, 1863. Location: Palmyra District, Lyon County, N. T. Mountain mining with sun setting over lake vignette. Towne & Bacon printer. Held together by tape on the entire center vertical fold. Tape seems to be museum quality. Tape job is a little crooked though. 25c Certificate revenue stamp. Not cancelled. J. arrived in Nevada by 1859 when it was still part of the Utah Territory. They were active in Carson City by 1860. They were given the right, by the Territorial Government, to build a road from Como (Palmyra district) to the Carson River.
