In original hard shell case made for John K. Tener: Guest badge with blue ribbon for the Pennsylvania Panama Pacific Exposition Commission. Made by the Dreka Company, fine stationers of Philadelphia. Medal is 34 mm with blue enameling. John Kinley Tener (1863-1946) was governor of Pennsylvania from 1911 until 1915. He played major league baseball for the Baltimore Orioles of the American Association, the Chicago White Stockings of the National League & the Pittsburgh Burghers of the Players' League, after his playing career he served as President of the National League. In 1912 Tener suggested California children circulate a petition to bring the Liberty Bell to the Jewel City at the Panama Pacific Exposition. By late autumn half a million school children had signed a scroll of paper two miles long, which was rolled onto a huge reel. The petition was paraded down Market Street on Thanksgiving Day before it was sent to Pennsylvania. The Liberty Bell arrived in San Francisco July 17, 1915.
