Contemporary Papago Basket. This is a truly impressive basket. This basket is in excellent condition. It was hand coiled and hand woven. This basket measures 20"Tall with an opening at the top of 11" diam. The Native American (Papago) Tohono O'odham or Desert People live in the Sonoran Desert of Arizona and Mexico. Early Tohono O'odham Indian Baskets were primarily utilitarian and used to carry water, firewood, prepare food and store items. Tohono O'odham Indian baskets are handmade using Native Plants such as Yucca, Bear grass, and Devils Claw. These Native American weavers rely on the natural colors of the desert plants. Indian Basket forms include a variety of shapes to include Ollas, Trays, Baskets with Lids, Pictorial Baskets, and Plaques. Miniature Tohono O'odham Native American Indian Baskets are made of Horsehair. This Papago Basket would be a great addition of Home or Business decor.
