These two stocks are similar in design but are different color. Issued in 1926 and 1927. Not cancelled. Fabulous and rare vignette of a specimen with gold streaks running through it. Pinholes, folds, some soiling. 7.5 x 12" Cochrane District, Northern Ontario. The area was the site of a gold rush in 1909-1911. Most of the original mines were destroyed by a fire in 1911, but a second wave of mining began almost immediately. By 1932, approx. 75% of the gold mined in Canada came from the Kirkland Lake and Porcupine camps. By 2001, 67 million troy ounces of gold have been mined from the Porcupine area, dwarfing the 12 million ounces of the Klondike Rush.
