Passenger receipt written at San Francisco for D. McDaniel in steerage. It appears this ticket that McDaniel went from San Francisco to Aspinwall, then by another company steamer to New Orleans (as did Dr. Curless). As such, he was not lost on the trip from Havana to New York, nor is he mentioned among the passengers on that part of the fateful voyage. McDaniel was one of 29 passengers that were bound for New Orleans from San Francisco. He was a horse racing man in the exact same vein as Ansel Easton, and may have come to California to either sell a horse or buy a horse. After he landed in New Orleans, McDaniel went north to Richmond, Virginia for a race. It is unknown if Easton and McDaniel knew each other, but they were in the same line of work. McDaniel's home may have been Jackson, Mississippi.
