Eagle & Flag vignette on cover sent from Ashford, Conn. To Fort Yuma, California. Sent to First Regiment, California Volunteers. Addressed originally to George H Whitaker at Gibsonville, Sierra. Gibsonville forwarding stamp on left. The Gibsonville post office opened less than ten years earlier in 1855. Cover has seen better days, but the front is very patriotic!
