Print of Paul Strand's "Rebecca" taken in New York City, 1922. This print is from a collection of prints that were likely sent to Ansel Adams by Strand. Please see the preceding write-up for more information on this collection. The woman in this photograph is Rebecca Salsbury, Paul Strand's first wife. Strand took a whole series of photographs of her between 1920 and 1932. According to the Met, "The series was so strongly influenced by Alfred Stieglitz's celebrated extended portrait of his wife, Georgia O'Keefe, that Strand's parallel project, pursued in close contact with his friend and mentor, may be considered an implicit act of homage." This early work by Strand also has a richness of texture. 8 x 10 inches, printed on Kodak paper. Very good condition.
