Manufactured by the Providence Tool Company, Providence, R.I. Calibers 433, 43 Spanish, 45 Peabody rimfire, 45-70, 50 rimfire and 50-70 Peabody were available along with some European calibers. This Peabody is believed to be 42 Spanish. Blue and case colored receiver with blue finish and iron mountings. Ladder sight to 1200, walnut stock. Development began in the early Civil War years and test trials were entered in 1864. The cessation of the Civil War stopped all U.S. contracts, but sales continued with foreign contracts. This rifle has an excellent bore and action. It is in extremely good shape considering it age.
