A photograph 4 x 6 inches of Anthony de Francisci, who designed the Peace dollar. The intended final design for the reverse of the 1921 Peace Dollar included the Eagle clutching a broken sword. Some people felt that the broken sword symbolized defeat, not peace or victory. So the sword was removed from the master hub before the working dies or coins were made.
