Lot of 13 documents that detail how mining companies worked to sell their shares and keep their shareholders aware. Includes two stock certificates: 1) Penn Placer Mining Company of Helena, Montana. No. 1228, issued for 300 shares to N.S. Stokes on Feb. 5th, 1889. Signed by Wm. H. Pancoast (president) and Hill (treasurer). Not cancelled. Ornate border. Folds. 2) Pen-Mont Mining & Milling Company stock certificate. No. 144, issued for 1,000 shares to Alice B. Barr on Nov. 19th, 1906. Signed by the president and secretary. Not cancelled. Gold seal and photograph illustration on mine. Folds. 3) Several shareholder-related papers for the Penn Placer Mining Co. Includes: five pieces detailing what happened at meetings and asking for investors (1889-1891); two other documents related to stock installments; an 1889 prospectus-like document detailing first notes from a meeting and then describing a trip and report of the mine by treasurer John R. White (4 pages); three typed documents from treasurer White, all 1890, to the corporate offices in Philadelphia, with one document noting an error in the report of a mine's value (9.24 vs. 92.4c per yard), and another where White notes that "an interview with Mr. Walsh, our mining engineer...more than confirms my faith in the value of our property and I feel I can recommend these bonds as a safe investment." Fascinating look into this Montana mining company! City: Helena State: Montana Date: 1889-1906 ID: 36610
